Abstract

1414607 Unsaturated carboxylic acids and derivatives ZOECON CORP 18 March 1974 11826/74 Heading C2C Compounds of formula wherein R is chloro, bromo, -OR<SP>1</SP> or -SR<SP>1</SP> in which R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, alkyl (1-6 C), cycloalkyl (3-8 C), alkenyl (2-6 C), and alkynyl (3-6 C) and in which the isomerism is cis or trans or C 2-3 , and trans at C 4-5 are used for the control of insects with conventional additives and preferably as a mixture of cis-2, trans-4 and trans-2, trans-4 isomers. The compounds may be prepared by the reaction of an aldehyde with the corbanion to form the ester which is hydrolysed to the acid and transesterified or converted to halides. Examples describe the preparation of ethyl 3,7,11-trimethyldodeca-2,4,11-trienoate, 3,7,11- trimethyldodeca-2,4,11-trienoic acid, 3,7,11-trimethyl-dodeca-2,4,11-trienoic acid chloride, S- ethyl, 3,7,11-trimethyldodeca-2,4,11-trienethioate, prop-2<SP>1</SP>-yn-1<SP>1</SP>-yl 3,7,11-trimethyldodeca- 2,4,11-trienoate, 3,7,11-trimethyldodeca-2,4,11- trienethioic acid and S-prop-2<SP>1</SP>-yn-1<SP>1</SP>-yl 3,7,11- trimethyldodeca-2,4,11-trienethioate, and the isopropyl, methyl, n-propyl, t-butyl, cyclopropyl allyl and 3-butyn-1-yl esters of 3,7,11-trimethyl- 2,4,11-dodecatrienoate. The compounds may be used as insecticides with or without conventional carriers.
