Abstract

1414518 Stabilizers for coupled vehicles EDUARD BESCH & CO 24 Nov 1972 [25 Nov 1971] 54466/72 Heading B7T [Also in Division F2] A stabilizer for coupled vehicles comprises an angled member 15 adapted to be clamped to an arm 13 of a trailer draw bar 10 and provided with apertures 16 for the attachment of a multihole bar 19, or alternatively the bar 19 may be clamped directly to the tow bar, and a further multi-hole bar 22 connected to bar 19 by an element 25 having a channel on either side of a base-plate, one channel for each of bars 19 and 22, a bolt 24 holding the element 25 and bars 19 and 22 together. The bar 22 mounts at its front end a ball 26 for connection with a socket on the rear end of a shock absorber 30, 31, the socket being connected to the shock absorber by a screwthreaded part 29 and locknut 28 for longitudinal adjustment thereof. The apertures 16 and holes in bars 19 and 22 allow for variable positioning of the shock absorber with respect to the towing vehicle and trailer. The element 25 may be made from a square or circular sheet of metal with pairs of opposite edge parts bent in opposite directions to form base 37 and channels 39, (40). The channels may be at right angles to each other or set obliquely. Where the draw bar comprises only a single bar stabilizers on opposite sides thereof may have a single member 15 or bar 19 clamped thereto and extend transversely from either side.
