Abstract

1414377 Percussive drills BLACK & DECKER MFG CO 23 Jan 1973 3432/73 Heading B4C [Also in Division B3] A percussive drill comprises an adjusting collar 45 which can be screwed inwards to the position shown to permit, for example, ratchet teeth 35 on a gear-wheel 33 to co-operate with ratchet teeth 37 on the housing when the shaft 17 is moved axially against the action of a spring 42; when rotary motion only is required the collar is screwed out to its second position to prevent engagement of the teeth. The collar has a knurled finage 63 and an end stop 69 and is spaced from the shaft by bearings 47, 49 having a lubricant reservoir 81 therebetween A nylon pellet 56 in the housing serves to frictionally retain the collar in its inward position during the hammer action. When the bit in the chuck 19 is pressed against a work surface, the shaft 17 is moved axially until stopped by the engagement of a washer 53 with the collar.
