Abstract
1413932 Fluid pressure servomotor systems INDUSTRIAL FILTER & PUMP Mfg CO 7 Feb 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 05721/74 Heading G3P The head of liquid 5 above a solid bed 2 of material which may vary in volume, e.g. an ion exchange resin, is maintained constant by feeding liquid to tank 4 containing the bed when the pressure differential between locations adjacent the bed surface 3 and above liquid 5 falls below a predetermined amount. The respective pressures are sensed by a pipe 9 disposed above liquid 5 and by a pipe 11 immersed in the latter and having a nozzle 12 opening adjacent bed surface 3. Pipe 11 is carried by a float 13 guided vertically on rod 14 and constructed such that it normally rests on bed surface 3. Pipe 11 is connected by flexible hose 10 to a pipe 8 supplied with a constant gas flow through pipe 15. Pipes 8, 9 are connected to differential pressure sensor 7 which transmits a pneumatic signal to regulator 16 controlling pneumatic valve 17 in the liquid feed line 18. To prevent float 13 from settling into bed 2 during extreme operating conditions, a timing relay 19 periodically interrupts the pneumatic control system by operation of a three-way valve 20 which causes pressurized air from line 21 to fully open valve 17 so that the level of liquid 5 rises to a higher than normal value.
