1413759 Boots &c SVIT NARODNI PODNIK GOTTWALDOV 16 March 1973 [7 April 1972] 12673/73 Heading A3B Apparatus for covering a shoe part, e.g. a moulded insole core V, with a laminar covering material M to form an insole S comprises a pair of oppositely driven, frusto-conical pinch rollers 2, 3 and a helically-ribbed wiper 7 to progressively wipe the margin of the material M, as is known in the lasting shoe uppers, with the addition of a pressure disc 9 to urge the insole against the wiper 7. Pressure disc 9 is rotatably mounted on the piston rod 10 of a piston 11 which operates in a cylinder 12 which has an air input line 15 and an exhaust line 14. The rotational axis of disc 9 is parallel to the generatrices 4, 5 of the pinch rollers 2, 3 when in the positions of Fig. 5. The apparatus is operated as follows:- cover material M is coated with adhesive and with insole core V is placed on the disc 9 in its lowered position and a portion of the material M is bent over and fed between the pinch rollers 2, 3. Air is then supplied to cylinder 12 to cause disc 9 to urge the insole S against the wiper 7 and a prewiping and guiding member 17. The rollers 2, 3 and wiper 7 are now driven to progressively wipe the edge of the material M over the insole core V. The guide 17 of Fig. 2 has a fixed backing edge 18 which is replaced in Fig. 5 by a rotatable conical member 21, more suitable for a delicate covering material M. A foot member (20), Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) may precede the pinch rollers 2, 3 to prevent undue deformation of an insole core V made of a soft material e.g. foam rubber. A pneumatic sensor may be provided which detects the presence of the margin of the covering material M as it is presented to the machine and operates the piston-and-cylinder 11, 12.
