Abstract

1413257 Ink - drop printers INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 31 Aug 1973 [25 Sept 1972] 41107/73 Heading G4H An ink-drop printer comprising means for generating three streams of charged inkdrops incorporates means for detecting failure in syncronization between drop charging and drop formation for each stream. For each stream (e.g. that produced by piezoelectric crystal 6 and charging electrode 10) some drops 33a are deflected to a gutter 18 to produce a current signal 37 whose level indicates the charge on the received drops. Each current signal passes through a switching circuit 40 to an operational amplifier 41 (Fig. 2, not shown). If a signal is below a threshold value then sync. correction is required, and this is accomplished by a control circuit 31 which adjusts the relative phase of operation of crystal 6 and electrode 10.
