Abstract

1412854 Outboard drive VOLVO PENTA AB 9 April 1973 [20 April 1972] 16902/73 Heading B7V A propeller housing 3 mounted on the stern 2 of a vessel and tiltable about horizontal pivot 4 has an arrangement which compensates wholly or in part for undesired turning movement on the steering mechanism. The housing has a downwardly extending intermediate propulsion shaft 9 around which portion 12 of the housing is rotatable and portion 13 to non-rotatable. Ram 15 forms part of tilting and trimming device 14 mounted between the stern and housing, and end 16 of the ram facing the housing is mounted for movement in its own anal direction in the non- rotatable portion of the housing and is arranged to engage a cam 19 on the rotatable portion of the housing. The cam laterally displaces contact point B of the bearing surface 20, Fig. 4b, on which the propeller pressure is taken up by the ram, and thereby gives a steering movement which compensates for undesired torque on the rotatable portion of the housing.
