Abstract
1412600 Electronic watches TIMEX CORP 22 Dec 1972 [13 Jan 1972] 59456/72 Heading G3T A mechanical oscillator, e.g. a balance 10, is maintained by a system of pairs of permanent magnets 44-50 and a coil 26 which receives pulses derived from a quartz oscillator (100), Fig.2a (not shown) via a frequency divider (102), synchronization of the balance with the pulses being aided by at least one ferromagnetic element 56 mounted in fixed relation to the coil to co-operate with the magnets. As shown the coil and the element 56 are carried by the balance and the magnets are attached to fixed plates 52, 54; this arrangement may however be reversed. The normal amplitude of oscillation is 160-200 degrees in total. If this amplitude is changed, e.g. by a jolt, the element 56 acts with the magnets to restore synchronous amplitude and frequency. The magnitude of the driving pulses to the coil is also adjusted by comparison of the phase of the control pulses from the oscillator (100) with that of monitoring pulses derived from the oscillations of the coil. The balance drives a gear train via an impulse pin 28 and pin pallet lever 34. In an alternative embodiment, a pair of ferromagnetic elements (92, 94), Figs.3 and 4 (not shown) are secured symmetrically with respect to a circular coil (90) on the balance.
