Abstract
1412384 Flameproof polyurethane foams SOLVAY & CIE 9 Jan 1974 [10 Jan 1973] 00969/74 Headings C3R and C3B [Also in Divisions C2] Flameproof polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting, in the presence of a reaction catalyst and a blowing agent, an organic polyisocyanate with a chlorine- and bromine-containing polyether polyol having the formula wherein # and y represent 0 or an integer from 1 to 20, provided that the average value # + y per chain is from 0 to 20, and Z represents a divalent bromine-containing aliphatic radical. The chlorine- and bromine-containing polyether polyol may be prepared by the addition of bromine to an unsaturated oligomer of epichlorohydrin or by oligomerization of epichlorohydrin in the presence of a brominecontaining aliphatic dihydroxy compound. It is preferred to use the chlorine- and brominecontaining polyether polyol in combination with a non-halogen-containing polyether polyol. In examples chlorine- and bromine-containing polyether polyols are prepared by bromination of unsaturated chlorine-containing polyether polyols produced by adding epichlorohydrin to cis - 2 - butene - 1,4 - diol or 2 - butine - 1,4- diol, and the resulting polyols used in the preparation of polyurethane foams by conventional techniques.
