Abstract

1,158,544. Polyurethane foams. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 Aug., 1966 [16 Aug., 1965], No. 34924/65. Headings C3C and C3R. Polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a polyether polyol in the presence of a conventional blowing agent and tris-monochloropropyl phosphate (e.g. tris-2-chloropropyl phosphate). The latter may be prepared by reaction of propylene oxide with phosphorus oxychloride in the presence of a titanium or zirconium halide and may be present at 2 to 40% by wt. of the polyurethane foam. The isocyanate used may be a crude diisocyanatodiarylmethane obtained by phosgenation of a crude diaminodiarylmethane. From 5 to 70% by weight of the total isocyanate may have a functionality >2. The polyether polyol may be prepared by polymerization of an alkylene oxide; it may contain 3 to 8 OH groups per molecule and have an OH value of 200-750 mg. KOH/g.
