Abstract

1412174 Cell with organic electrolyte SAFTSOC DES ACCUMULATEURS FIXES ET DE TRACTION 30 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972 16 March 1972 23 March 1972 30 Oct 1972] 4707/73 Heading H1B A cell comprises a negative electrode whose active material is an alkali metal, a positive electrode, and an electrolyte consisting of a solute and a solvent, the solvent comprising an ether selected from the group consisting of dioxane, dioxolane and propylene oxide, the ether being alone or in combination with an ester. The preferred negative active material is lithium and the positive electrode active material is selected from the group comprising copper oxide, monovalent silver chromate, lead chromate, a fluorinated carbon, and a fluorinated hydrocarbon polymer, e.g. PTFE. The positive active material may be mixed with graphite. Preferred esters are polypropylene carbonate and ethylene carbonate. The preferred solute is lithium perchlorate. Button type cells having a pair of lithium anodes and a single cathode, are described.
