Abstract

1412114 Continuous moulding of fibre reinforced plastics NYLEX CORP Ltd 23 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 54259/72 Heading B5A To produce a fibre reinforced polyester rod, glass rovings 1 are impregnated with resin 2 by drawing around members 3, 4, 5 and 6, the thus impregnated fibres being preformed in an oversize die 7, heated by R.F. heating between electrodes 9, 11, shaped in a heated die 12 and finally cured in an oven 16; the apparatus is arranged so that gelation of the resin occurs within the die 12 and peak exotherm within the oven 16. The method results in an improved surface finish to the rod and also obviates cracking due to shrinkage.
