Abstract
1412085 Recovering ammonia from aqueous solutions I MAVROVIC 25 Oct 1973 25565/73 Heading C1A An aqueous solution containing 0À1 to 10% by wt. of ammonia either as free dissolved ammonia, or fixed as ammonium carbamate, carbonate or bicarbonate, or urea is introduced into the upper section of a fractionating column, steam and a gas inert to the materials present in the exchanger (preferably CO 2 ) are introduced into the bottom of the column to strip the ammonia from the solution at 20 to 400 psig the amount of inert gas being from 0À1 to 10 moles of inert gas per mole of ammonia, the ammonia being removed as a gaseous overhead and the aqueous solution having its ammonia concentration lowered from 0À1 to 10% by wt. to be substantially free of ammonia (i.e. less than 20 p.p.m.). Preferably the steam is sparged into the bottom of the column, below which the CO 2 is introduced. Below this, optionally may be introduced oxygen to prevent possible corrosion.
