Abstract

1412018 Reforming naphtha; hydrocracking SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 6 Dec 1972 [8 Dec 1971] 56403/72 Heading C5E Motor gasoline is made from a hydrocarbon oil boiling below 220‹ C. by reforming it catalytically, mixing the whole effluent from the reforming step or a low-boiling fraction of that effluent with a hydrocarbon oil boiling between 35‹ and 100‹ C. and selectively hydrocracking the mixture to convert normal paraffins but not isoparaffins, aromatics or naphthenes. The starting material may be a straight-run naphtha or a fraction from a hydrocracked oil. The oil boiling between 35‹ and 100‹ C. may also be a straight-run fraction. The selective hydrocracking may be over a catalyst comprising one or more active components on a porous carrier having a uniform pore diameter between 4 and 6 Š, e.g. a metal of the Cu, Zn, Cr or Mn subgroups or of Group VIII on a cation-exchanged zeolite. In particular the active components may be a combination of Co or Ni and W, Mo or Re, and may be sulphided.
