Abstract

1411734 Brake discs; cooling; securing together rotary parts W BUSCH and H FRIEDERICHS 11 Jan 1974 [11 Jan 1973] 01490/74 Headings F2E and F2U A brake disc assembly for a railway vehicle comprises a ventilated disc 14 having two spaced, flat annular members interconnected by radially extending webs which define air-flow passages through the disc, the disc 14 having radially inwardly extending projections 19 which are a press fit in slots 13 in a hub 11 (or an intermediate mounting ring) and the disc 14 being divided into at least two segments by radially extending joins 15, at least one of which passes through one of the projections 19, the segments being relatively located and secured by locating pins 16 and screw-threaded fasteners 17 and the disc 14 being axially located by keys 20 on opposite sides of the projections 19. The disc 14 shown has two segments and three projections 19 received in respective slots 13 which slots 13 are formed in support lugs 12 spaced around the hub 11. There are thus three pairs of keys 20, each of which keys has its ends seated in respective recesses 21 in the lugs 12. The keys 20 of each pair are held together by a screw 22. The fasteners 17 are preferably undercut bolts which pass with clearance through their openings. The disc assembly may be detached from the hub for replacement without dismantling the hub or axle assembly.
