Abstract

1411436 Stabilizing polyolefins IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 March 1973 [30 March 1972] 15016/72 Heading C3P Polyolefins are light stabilized by incorporating therein a N-C 1-18 alkyl or N-C 5-7 cycloalkyl phthalimide, the alkyl substituents being optionally further substituted by aryl or hydroxyl. The polyolefin may be polyethylene, polypropylene or poly-4-methylpentene-1; and conventional additives including UV absorbers such as 2-hydroxybenzophenones and 2-(2- hydroxyphenyl)benzotriazoles may also be incorporated. Examples describe compositions comprising polypropylene, calcium stearate, 1,1,3 - tris - (2<SP>1</SP>- methyl - 41 - hydroxy - 5<SP>1</SP>- t - butylphenyl)butane and dilauryl thiodipropionate together with N-isopropylphthalimide or N-cyclohexylphthalimide.
