Abstract
A polyolefin such as polyethylene or polypropylene is stabilized with an alkyl mercapto succinic acid ester of formula: <FORM:0964647/C3/1> wherein R1 is alkyl, phenyl or alkylphenyl and R2 and R3 are each alkyl. A synergistic effect is obtained by the additional use of a phenolic stabilizer, e.g. those falling within the following classes of compounds: triazines, phosphonates, thiophosphonates, phosphonic acids, propionates and bis-cresols. The preferred succinic acid ester is didodecyl n-dodecyl mercaptosuccinate.
