Abstract

1411134 Laminates DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 8 Dec 1972 [9 Dec 1971] 56826/72 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Laminates may be prepared using as adhesive a heat-activated composition comprising (1) at least one thermoplastics material, (2) at least one plasticizer which is solid at 20‹ C. and (3) at least one indene and/or coumarone resin, the adhesive being free from paraffins or waxes and each of said components being in the form of discrete particles so that the adhesive is in the form of a heterogeneous multiphase system. The plasticizer may be dicyclohexyl phthalate, diphenyl phthalate, ditrimethylcyclohexyl phthalate, methyl phenyl isophthalate, N-alkylated toluene sulphonamides, p-toluene sulphonic acid esters or benzoates. The thermoplastics material may be a polymer of acrylic, methacrylic or crotonic esters, vinyl chloride or vinyl acetate. The compositions may also contain dyes, emulsifiers and thickeners, and may be applied from aqueous dispersions to paper, cardboard, plastics, leather and textiles which may be bonded, after activating the adhesive, to glass, metals, plastics and ceramics. In examples papers coated with adhesives comprising coumarone/ indene resin, vinyl chloride/2-ethylhexyl acrylate copolymer and (1-5) dicyclohexyl phthalate and (6 and 7) glyceryl tribenzoate are heatactivated and bonded under pressure to untreated polyethylene film.
