Abstract
1411128 Filtration of solids from liquids SHELL INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 10 Nov 1972 [12 Nov 1971] 52032/72 Heading B1D In a process for the separation of solid and liquid materials by means of filtration with a rotary filter (e.g. filter drum) in which the filter cake obtained is washed at a number of successive locations with a washing liquid in which the solid material is at least substantially insoluble, the quantity of washing liquid applied at each successive location is greater than at the preceding location and the increase is in the direction of travel of the filter cake. The increased quantity of washing liquid may be applied from spray nozzles of increased number or capacity or operating at increasing pressure at successive locations. The washing liquid being of a lower viscosity than that of the original filtrate, the quantity of washing liquid applied at each location is inversely proportional to the viscosity of the liquid present in the cake at that location. The solid material may be wax crystallised by cooling from a liquid which may be mineral oil, the washing liquid may be an oil solvent, for example a methylethylketone/toluene mixture, propane, methylisobutylketone or mixtures of dichloromethane and dichloroethane. The crystallisation of the wax may be carried out in the presence of a polyalkylmethacrylate or a mixture of polyalkylmethacrylates. The spray nozzles may be arranged in rows across the moving filter.
