1411076 Granulating metals UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 20 Oct 1972 [27 Oct 1971] 49920/71 Addition to 1164810 Heading C7X A process for producing irregular metal particles comprises establishing an arc between an electrode and a cooled crucible containing the molten metal, and rotating the crucible. Droplets of metal are flung out and strike a housing when within Œ100‹C of their melting point, causing already-solidified particles to be distorted, and flattening and solidifying the still-molten droplets. Metals referred to include Cr, Mo, Mn, Ti, Mg, Al and alloys containing these, e.g. stainless steels and superalloys.
