Abstract

1411010 Recovering metals from scrap I M I REFINERY HOLDINGS Ltd 3 May 1974 [14 May 1973] 22787/73 Heading C7D Copper is recovered from metal or alloy containing scrap with plastics material by leaching the scrap an aqueous ammoniacal solution of an ammonium salt (e.g. carbonate or sulphate) and extracting the copper from the solution by known methods. The leachant is preferably oxidized during or away from the leaching process (e.g. by blowing air, oxygen, ozone, or H 2 O 2 into the solution). The scrap is preferably shredded prior to treatment and may be tumbled while in contact with the leachant. Sludge product may be treated to recover precious metals and the plastics material may be reclaimed for further use.
