1410892 Change-speed control BRITISH LEYLAND UK Ltd 28 Jan 1974 [27 Jan 1973] 4267/73 Heading F2D A gear lever striker arm, connected to a selector shaft by a yoke (not shown), has an end 22 movable in three planes corresponding to 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and 5th and reverse ratios, and is prevented from being moved directly from the 1-2 plane to select 5th ratio by a stop 13 turned up from a plate 12 welded to a plate 11 which is slidable between guides 15. The striker end 22 operates in an aperture in the plate 11 which aperture is formed with a narrow portion 23 so that whenever the gear lever is returned to neutral in the 1-2 plane the plate is returned to the position shown in which the stop 13 is positioned so that the gear lever cannot be moved to the 5-R plane to select 5th ratio. The lever may, however, be lifted to clear the stop 13 and a reverse stop 24 to select reverse. When the lever is operated in the 3-4 plane the end 22 coacts with an enlarged part of the opening in the plate 11 providing lost motion so that when the lever is returned to neutral from 3rd or 4th ratio the plates 11, 12, and consequently the stop 13, remain displaced from the position in which movement into the 5-R plane is prevented. Cam surfaces 25 cause the plates 11, 12 to be centalized on movement of the striker end 22 into the 1-2 plane. In a modification, a pivoted, slotted plate takes the place of the assembly 11, 12, 13.
