Abstract

1410761 Nerve stimulator ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO 24 Oct 1972 [6 Aug 1971] 37151/71 Heading A5R A respiratory pacer comprises a hermetically sealed biologically inert casing including a nuclear battery and means for providing a train of do signals having a percentage modulation of about 25% to about 95%, and at least one conductor secured to and insulated from the casing for transmitting the signals to the phrenic nerves. Each signal has a sawtooth shape of increasing amplitude and includes a pulse train of 90 pps. The nuclear battery includes a Pu 238 source and a thermopile and the power output to the nerves is 1-5 mW. The output signal may be applied differentially to two nerves with manually operable adjusting means allocating the signal energy between the nerves.
