Abstract
1410658 Turbomachine rotors GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 1 Dec 1972 [6 Dec 1971] 55537/72 Heading F1T The roots 18 of turbine or like blades 12 are retained in dovetail slots in the periphery of rotor disc 10 by annular boltless rings 22, 24 secured to the disc and each having an outwardly extending leg 46 with an enlarged head 52 engaging under blade platforms 16 to prevent radially inwards movement of roots 18 into cooling air spaces 26 at the base of the slots, and projections 68 which prevent axial movement of roots 18 out of the slots. Cooling air is supplied to spaces 26, and thence to passages within the blades, through holes 28 in ring 22 from an annular chamber (34), Fig. 1 (not shown), defined between rotor disc 10 and a further disc (36) bolted thereto. The chamber (34) is itself supplied with the cooling air by stationary expansion nozzles (32) discharging through holes (40) in disc (36). The latter has a rim 56 sealingly mating at 58 with a frustoconical extension 54 of ring 22. Additional holes 66 may be provided in ring 22 to deliver extra cooling air to the rim of disc 10, or alternatively radial cooling air slots may be formed in projection 68. Rings 22, 24 are each secured to the respective faces of disc 10 by the inter-engagement of tabs 48 on the rings between hook-shaped fingers 50 on the disc and the provision of split locking rings 72. Shoulders 76, 84 are provided on tabs 48 to respectively locate rings 72 and prevent excessive bending of the tabs during assembly.
