Abstract

1409893 Derivatives of 9-(4-piperidylidene) thioxanthene SANDOZ Ltd 20 Nov 1972 [22 Nov 1971 (2)] 53461/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula and their acid addition salts, wherein n is 0-3, R 1 is H, Cl, Br, F, CF 3 , C 1-4 alkyl, or C 1-3 alkoxy or alkylthio; R 2 is CN, COR 3 , or COOR 3 ; R 3 is C 1-4 alkyl; and R 4 is H or C 1-4 alkyl. These compounds are prepared by reacting the N-unsubstituted analogue (II) of I with Z-R 2 where Z is X-(CH 2 ) n -CHR 4 - or CH 2 =CR 4 - (in this case I where n = 1 is formed), X being the acid radical of a reactive ester. II is prepared by heating its N-ethoxycarbonyl derivative with butanolic KOH. Therapeutic compositions comprise compounds of the above formula, which have sleepinducing and -promoting, and muscle-relaxing activity.
