1409803 Chamber pots NURSERY PIED PIPER CO Ltd 30 July 1973 [8 Sept 1972 5 Dec 1972] 41823/72 and 56019/72 Heading A4N A chamber pot for use in training infants, comprises means for detecting the presence of moisture derived from urine, or excreta, in the bottom of the pot and means incorporated in the pot and responsive to such presence to produce a musical sound. A pair of exposed stainless steel contacts 4 in the bottom of the pot, flush with its surface, are arranged to be connected together to complete the circuit to the sound producing means by conductive liquid etc in the bottom of the pot. The circuit includes a switch 15, a battery (18) and a P.N.P. transistor (19) acting as a switch for a motor 13, which motor activates a musical box 12, and is enclosed in two hollow zones, the music chamber 5 and the battery chamber (7), Fig. 2, (not shown). The on/off switch 15 may be accessibly placed at the rear, or an automatic switch may be operated by the weight of a child upon the pot, an actuator 16 then projecting below the lower edge of the pot wall. Switch 15, in series with the battery, renders the circuit inoperative until it is closed by a child sitting on the pot. When urine completes the circuit between the contact studs 4, the transistor is turned on and the current operates motor 13 such that the musical box plays a tune. Alternatively a spring motor may be employed. The detection of urine may be performed by means of two electrodes of dissimilar metals between which a potential difference will arise in its presence, the potential difference being used as a triggering voltage e.g. to tu@ on a field effect transistor controlling a sound producing device, or to operate a moving coil relay which controls a clockwork mechanism, eliminating the battery, or to drive the musical device itself, again eliminating the need for a battery. A timer may be provided for stopping the music after e.g. a few minutes even if the child remains on the pot.
