Abstract

1409181 Flocculating; kaolin LUBRIZOL CORP 10 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972] 42521/73 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Substances are flocculated from their aqueous suspensions by adding either (a) a compound of formula wherein each of R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radical and each R<SP>6</SP> is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radical or the two R<SP>6</SP> radicals together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached from a heterocyclic radical or (b) polymers of the above compounds in which R<SP>1</SP> is a lower alkenyl group. Thus kaolin may be flocculated from aqueous suspension by adding (1) alum and poly(2-acrylimidoamino-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid) or (2) ferric chloride and a copolymer of 2-acrylimidoamino-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid and acrylamide.
