1409169 Obtaining high purity nickel from matte; nickel and cobalt values LE NICKEL 13 Nov 1973 [13 Nov 1972] 52737/73 Addition to 1385263 Heading C1A High purity nickel is obtained from nickel matte by (a) comminuting and roasting to obtain nickel oxide, (b) dissolving the oxide in concentrated HCl, (c) oxidizing the iron present by bubbling gaseous chlorine into the impure nickel chloride solution and afterwards adding sufficient hydrogen peroxide to bring the electrical potential of the solution to the value corresponding to the stoichiometric oxidation of the ferrous ions, (d) removing impurities from the solution by means of an ion exchange resin and (e) electrolysing the solution. The eluant from step (d) may be used for recovering cobalt.
