1408680 Test apparatus FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI SpA 19 April 1973 [22 April 1972] 10913/73 Heading G4H Apparatus for recording vehicle test results on a card bearing a list of tests not all of which are relevant to every vehicle, comprises means for feeding the card past a printer so that only those positions in the list which are relevant to a particular vehicle being tested are presented to the printer for printing, and means for indicating each test as it is presented. The identity of each test in the list is recorded in machine readable code alongside the test name on the card: as the card is fed past the printer, the name is read by a TV camera and displayed on a screen while the code is sensed and relayed to a central processor. Information characterising the vehicle being tested, (e.g. its make), is preset using pushbuttons, the information being fed to the processor. An operator then presses a card feed (no printing) button and the card is moved to the position of the first relevant test. This is carried out and the operator presses a YES or a NO button so that the success or failure of the test is recorded on the card. This is displayed on the screen and the card is moved forward to the next relevant test. The result of a repeated test may be printed next to the first result (e.g. in the event of recording error), and the feed button may be used to bypass a test. The display screen may be used for displaying data obtained during a test, e.g. from meter readings. The card may form part of a continuous perforated roll. The printer may be controlled remotely by the operator using ultrasonic or radio waves.
