Abstract
1408671 Electrical insulator TRANSMISSION DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 20 Dec 1973 [13 Jan 1973] 1902/73 Heading H2C [Also in Division F2] In bonding a rigid mass 15 to a fibre reinforced rod 11 or tube, the number of fibres that need be cut, to provide keying slots, is minimized by making the slots extend longitudinally. As shown, glass fibres extend in parallelism in a rigid epoxy or polyester matrix to form the rod 11. A mass of bonding material is intruded into the slots of splined end 12 and given a frusto-conical shape or it may be moulded about the end 12, while this is held in a metal end fitting socket 16. The rigid mass 15 may include reinforcement in the form of separate or interconnected teeth or plates (17, Fig. 5, not shown). The arrangement may be used in the tesile core (11, Fig. 8, not shown) of an insulator supporting a high voltage overhead power line. In non- insulating applications, carbon fibres on to wires may be used in place of the glass fibres.
