1470539 Light guides STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 6 June 1974 25091/74 Heading G2J An optical fibre optical power divider has three or more optical fibre tapers 10...12 of which the larger ends are each connected to two or more optical fibres 13...15 by which the larger ends are optically coupled with the larger ends of at least two other tapers. An optical fibre taper for use in a divider employing four such tapers, 30 ... 33, see Fig. 3 (not shown) is made by heating to soften the middle part of an assembly of three unclad fibres arranged side-by-side drawing the ends apart and imparting a slight twist to the assembly, see Fig. 4 (not shown).
