Abstract

1408612 Release layers DENNISON MFG CO 13 Oct 1972 [15 Oct 1971 (2) 14 April 1972] 47357/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division B6] In the preparation of heat-activatable transfers (see Division B6), a temporary support e.g. clay-worked paper sheet, is coated with a resinous release layer and a clear lacquer layer prior to printing with design and adhesive layers, the release and lacquer layers having softening temperatures above the transferring temperature, generally 300 to 450‹F. The release layer may be applied as partiallycured or uncured solution and may comprise a thermosetting resin, e.g. acrylic, polyamide, polyester, vinyl, epoxy, allylic, epoxyacrylate, aldehyde or amino aldehyde resins; or copolymers of amino-aldehyde resins with alkyds, styrenated alkyds, polyester, acrylics, polyamides or cellulose esters;, or urea- or melamine-formaldehyde copolymerised with cellulose esters. The lacquer layer may then be applied by gravure and may consist of clear cellulose esters e.g. acetate, vinyl resins, acrylic resins or combinations thereof. Alternatively, the release layer may be. polypropylene, with the lacquer layer containing a thermosetting resin.
