1408529 Pyrazolo [5,1-b] quinazolone nucleus containing dyes FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 13 July 1973 [14 July 1972] 33628/73 Heading C4P [Also in Divisions G2 and C2] Dyes of one of the formulµ where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are each optionally substituted alkyl; R<SP>2</SP> is H, alkyl, aralkyl, alkoxy, carboxy, OH, alkoxycarbonyl or aryl; R<SP>4</SP> is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; L<SP>1</SP> and L<SP>2</SP> are each a methine group; Z completes a cyanine heterocyclic nucleus; R<SP>5</SP> is halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, acylamino, amino, alkylamino, NO 2 , phenoxy or sulpho; m is 0, 1 or 2; n is 0 or 1; p is 1, 2, 3 or 4; and X<SP>(-)</SP> is an acid anion are prepared by condensation and used for sensitizing photographic direct-positive silver halide emulsions. 21 dyes are specified, dyes 1-9 being of Formula (I) wherein R<SP>1</SP> is CH 3 , C 2 H 5 or CH 2 CH 2 OH; Z completes benzoxazole, benzothiazole, thiazoline, 6-nitrobenzothiazole, 5-(methyl or carboxy) benzolthiazole, benzoselenazole or 3,3-dimethylindolenine; and n is 0, dyes 10, 12-13 and 15-18 being of Formula (II) wherein R<SP>1</SP> is CH 3 , C 2 H 5 or CH 2 CH 2 OH; R<SP>3</SP> is CH 3 or (CH 2 )<SP>2</SP>SO 3 <SP>(-)</SP>; Z completes benzoxazole, benzothiazole, 5-methylbenzothiazole, benzoselenazole or 3,3-dimethylindolenine; n is 0; and X<SP>(-)</SP> is p-toluenesulphonate when R<SP>3</SP> is CH 3 , and dyes 11, 14 and 19-21 being of Formula (III) wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 2 H 5 ; R<SP>4</SP> is CH 3 ; Z completes benzoxazole, benzothiazole, 2- or 4-quinoline or imidazo- [4,5-b] quinoxaline; n is 0 or 1; and X<SP>(-)</SP> is iodide or p-toluene sulphonate, and in all the dyes 1-21 R<SP>2</SP> is CH 3 ; L<SP>1</SP> and L<SP>2</SP> are CH; m is 1; and p is 0.
