Abstract

1408132 Worktables; copying L R GEORGE 2 Oct 1972 [2 July 1971] 30996/71 Headings B3B and B3K [Also in Division F2] A work-table unit, e.g. for a vertical milling or drilling machine, comprises a work receiving table top 3 slidable on an intermediate carriage 2 by guide rods 5 and the carriage 2 is slidable on a base 1 by guide rods 4 in a direction at right angles to the movement of table 3 on the guide rods 5, and wherein a stylus 10 co-operates with a template 8 and acts between the table 3 and the base 1 to guide the movement of the table, the template 8 being mounted on the underside of an interchangeable jig plate 11 screwed to the table. The stylus 10 can be aligned with the cutting tool spindle axis to profile mill a workpiece to the shape of a template 8. The diameter of the stylus 10 may be the same as the diameter of the milling cutter 19. The work-table includes hydraulic piston cylinder means for damping movements in which fluid is passed from one end of the cylinder (14), (24), (Fig. 1, not shown), to the other through flexible leads and an adjustable valve (20), (30). The guide rods 4, 5 may be used as piston-rods in conjunction with a surrounding cylinder. The table 3 includes handles 60.
