1407508 Electroluminescence SONY CORP 9 Jan 1973 [11 Jan 1972 10 Aug 1972] 1233/73 Heading C4S A light emitting device comprises a diode emitter 1 mounted on an insulating plate 7 with its junction perpendicular to the plate. The device provides a fine line of emitted light. A figure of eight display panel comprises a front glass plate 7; a layer comprising conductive leads 6, an opaque insulating material 8 and diffusing windows 9 containing silica or pigment; an insulating layer 11 of photosensitive resin with apertures for diodes 1 and leads; a further insulating layer 16; conductive resin layer 18 providing connections between the diodes and leads 6; a protective insulating layer 19; a further layer 20; and a resin layer 21 with a reflecting area 23. Unwanted portions of layer 18 are removed by sandblasting; layer 21 is secured by adhesive 22. The diodes are of Ga, P, Si C or Ga N 3 . In other embodiments conductive leads are widened so that the opaque material can be omitted. The figure of eight comprises 9 elements; the elements may be viewed from both sides of the panel.
