Abstract

1407105 Detergents containing tetrahydrofuran carboxylates MONSANTO CO 22 Aug 1973 [23 Aug 1972 (2)] 39752/73 Heading C5D [Also in Division C2] Detergent compositions comprise from 1 to 75% by weight of a tetra alkali metal tetrahydrofuran 2,2,5,5-tetracarboxylate of formula wherein M is sodium or potassium, and hydrates thereof (see Division C2) with at least 8% by weight of a surfactant. The compounds act as builders and have sequestration activity. Compositions may include detergency builders, such as alkali metal carbonates, borates, phosphates, polyphosphates, bicarbonates and silicates, salts of nitrilo-triacetic acid, phytic acid, sodium citrate or water-soluble polymeric polycarboxylates, and surfactants such as anionic, nonionic zwitterionic or ampholytic compounds, many of which are listed. Examples describe compositions comprising 12% linear alkylbenzene sulphonate, an adduct of a modified oxo-type C 14 -C 15 alcohol with ethylene oxide, sodium hydroxyalkyl (C 14 - C 16 ) N - methyl lamate, or cocodimethylsulphopropylbetaine; 5-75% of the tetracarboxylate; 12% of sodium silicate with sodium sulphate used as detergents.
