Abstract
1406981 Cleaning sludge conditioning plant STERLING DRUG Inc 9 April 1973 [24 April 1972] 16842/73 Addition to 1351322 Heading C1C [Also in Division F2] Sludge blockages in the heat exchanger of a sewage sludge conditioning system are removed by a flow of cold water countercurrent to the usual direction of sludge flow. As shown, sludge normally passes sequentially from pump 12 to tubes 14a of heat exchanger 14, conditioning reactor 16 (e.g. wet air oxidizer), shells 14b of heat exchanger 14, vapour separator 18 and tank 20. To cleanse the heat exchanger, the sludge source is cut off and the reactor 16 isolated by the appropriate valves shown, then water is pumped by pump 12 to valve 42A, thence to heat exchanger shells 14b, and is then either discharged through valve 42C or is passed through heat exchanger tubes 14a and discharged through valve 42D.
