Abstract

1406569 Optical apparatus HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 1 Oct 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 45798/73 Heading G2J [Also in Division H4] A liquid crystal reticle system comprises an objective lens (11) and an optical element (10) e.g. an eye-piece as shown, or a television camera or other photo-detector, positioned in an optical path, and a transparent liquid crystal cell 12 between the lenses (10, 11), the cell having two sets 18a...18d, 19a...19d of transparent conductors lying orthogonally of each other in spaced parallel planes. Switches enable two selected conductors, one in each plane, to be energized to induce turbulence in the crystal at the projective intersections of (a) the two conductors, and (b) each energized conductor in one set with the unenergized ones of the other, see Fig. 5b (not shown) to form a reticle.
