Abstract
1406547 Making DC machine coils ESSEX INTERNATIONAL Inc 16 Oct 1973 [12 Feb 1973] 48208/73 Heading B3A A machine for placing wire in slots of a stator of a D.C. machine or of a coil transfer apparatus for subsequent transfer to a stator includes a wire guide 32 through which the wire 42 is pushed and guided into the slots during relative movement of the guide and slots. In one embodiment for stator winding the guide is composed of a flexible tube 98, Fig. 4, which is reciprocated in the direction 48 by an eccentric pin 120 engaged in a slot 118 on a block 110 fixed to a rod 108 supporting the tube end. The stator is indexed by a mechanism (140), Fig. 3 (not shown), in timed relation with the tube end movement. The indexing may be in one direction to produce wave-like wire turns or in alternate directions to produce coils. The wire feed is effected by a driven roller 302, Fig. 4, engaged by idler rollers 304, 306 around which a belt 342 passes. The roller 302 has a wire receiving groove closed by the belt. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 8-10 (not shown), the tube end (98) is moved in a figure of eight path (392) and the stator is rotated continuously in one direction or in alternate directions by gearing (402), (404), Fig. 10 (not shown). In a further embodiment, Fig. 11, the tube end 98 is moved in reciprocation in a direction 48 by an eccentric pin 120<SP>11</SP> drive and also rotated by a barrel cam drive 430 through a rack and pinion 424, 426. A similar drive may be used to direct the pushed wire between the fingers (64), Fig. 12 (not shown), of a coil transfer apparatus. In a still further embodiment, Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown), the tube end is provided in a bush (474) pivoted between adjacent links (476), (478) of a chain (454) guided in a serpentine path by sprockets. In a final embodiment the tube end 98, Fig. 15 (not shown), is mounted on a rotary plate (480) on a reciprocating slide (300). In all the embodiments the wire is pushed through the guide or tube and is not subjected to tension when wound. Hence a reduced thickness of insulation or enamel is required on the wire than when the wire is tensioned on the stator or transfer apparatus arms.
