Abstract

1406215 Screwdrivers STANLEY WORKS 15 May 1974 [24 Sept 1973] 21584/74 Heading B3N [Also in Division B4] A handle for a rotary reversible ratchet tool, e.g. a screwdriver includes a ratchet mechanism 24 mounted at one end of a generally cylindrical shell 20, the shell having at least one outwardly projecting retaining lug 40 intermediate its ends, a cylindrical sleeve 50 mounted on the said one end of the shell and extending along the shell beyond the lug or lugs 40, the sleeve 50 having an axially extending slot 54 and side apertures 58 adjacent said slot for receiving the lugs 40 and locking said sleeve on said shell, and a hand grip 60 mounted by a force fit on the end of the shell 20 opposite the said one end, the hand grip having a tubular extension 72 forming a hoop circumscribing said sleeve which prevents outward expansion of said sleeve thereby ensuring the retention of the lugs 40 in the apertures 58.
