Abstract
1406109 Conditioning flue gas with H 2 SO 4 ; electrostatic precipitators UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 1 Nov 1972 50289/72 Headings BIT, and B2J In a method and apparatus for conditioning a fly ash laden flue gas with vapourised sulphuric acid prior to electrical precipitation, air and/or steam from line 1 is heated at 5 to above 400‹F and passed to mixing zone 12 where it is mixed with sulphuric acid fed through pump 14 and control valve 15, the vapourised mixture containing substantially decomposed sulphuric acid is fed to a flue gas duct 21 through manifold 19 where sulphuric acid is adsorbed onto the fly ash particles. The particles then pass to an electrical precipitator (not shown) where with their resistance to giving up their electrostatic charge lowered by the acid they can be more easily precipitated, and "back discharge" and "back corona" are reduced. The acid inlet valve 15 is controlled by dew point analyser 33 so that all the acid supplied is vapourised in zone 17 upstream of duct 21.
