Abstract
1405765 Intra-uterine contraceptive devices A H ROBINS CO INC 7 Nov 1972 [7 Jan 1972] 51340/72 Heading A5R An intra-uterine contraceptive device 20 is made from a material enabling flexing to conform to the uterine cavity and comprises a ring 22 formed by a nose portion 24 and a tail portion 26 formed by two side portions 28, 30, and a plurality of spaced apart spurs e.g. 76, 78 extending inwardly from the ring. The inner spurs 76, 82 and the inner spurs 80, 86 are inclined respectively on opposite sides of the plane of the ring. The inner spurs 78, 84 lie in the plane of the ring. Webs e.g. 91, 93 are attached to the side portions between adjacent spurs. A thin membrane 32 is attached to the nose and tail portions. Apertures 34 and 36 are formed respectively in the membrane and tail portion. The spurs preferalbly have enlarged terminal ends. The embodiment of Fig 8, (not shown), has inwardly directed spurs (292) having ends 294 shaped as spherical knobs. The ring 22 is of a similar material and shape, and deforms in a similar manner to the ring (22) of Specification 1405762. Outwardly directed spurs e.g. 40, 42 having webs e.g. 56, 58 may be provided similar to those described in Specification 1405763.
