1405708 Coke particles C CONRADTY 19 Oct 1973 [26 Oct 1972] 48776/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division C7] Fractionated fluidized bed coke particles contain substantially no volatile components and are substantially spheroidal with diameter # 5 mm. Any volatiles may be removed by calcining at 1000-1350‹ C. with the exclusion of air, and the particles may be graphitized above 2500‹ C. The particle sizes may cover the ranges 0À25-0À50 mm. and/or 0À50-1À0 mm. and/or 1À0-2À0 mm. An electrocatalytically active material may be deposited on the particles, e.g. an oxide or metal (list given); in an example Mn acetate is deposited from an alcohol/C 2 HCl 3 solution. It is stated that each coke particle comprises hundreds of concentric polycrystalline carbon layers. Such particles are useful as an electrode for electro-organic syntheses.
