Abstract

1405492 Measuring dewpoint electrically IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Oct 1973 [26 Oct 1972] 49465/72 Heading G1N Apparatus for determining the dewpoint of a gas comprises a glass thimble 2 containing a thermocouple 3 and an electrode 4 and a conduit 9 fed with cold air. A potential difference is applied between the thermocouple 3 and electrode 4. When the thimble is cooled by the air in conduit 9 below the ambient dewpoint a current flows between the elements 3, 4, which current is fed through a relay 10 to cut off the cold air-flow at a pre-set value. The temperature then rises and the current falls as the dew is evaporated until, at another pre-set value, the relay 10 restores the airflow through conduit 9. Thus the temperature of the thimble 2 oscillates about the dewpoint value and is indicated at 8, recorded at 12 and actuates an alarm 13 at a maximum value.
