Abstract

1424687 Determining moisture content of gas WERNER & PFLEIDERER 7 Feb 1973 [8 Feb 1972 21 Sept 1972] 5966/73 Headings G1N and G1S In apparatus for and a method of measuring the moisture content of a gas in an enclosed space A, e.g. a workroom, a sample thereof is passed through a chamber 8 in which is located lithium chloride sensor 9 the gas in the chamber 8 being maintained at a constant temperature. As described gas sample is drawn through a filter 1 and passes through a heat exchanger 3 fitted with an electrical heating cartridge 4 and a cooling blower 5 operated by a temperature regulator 6 in response to a thermometer probe 7 in the chamber 8. Any moisture condensing out of the gas sample is withdrawn by a booster pump 10 so as not to interfere with the moisture measurement. The effectiveness of the regulator 6 may be improved by the inclusion of an aluminuim block 12 of good heat conductivity and a heat exchange body 13. A thermally insulating jacket 17 of foamed hard PVC or glass wool may also be provided. Tubes within chamber 8 may be provided to ensure an even gas distribution therein. The sensor may be suspended so as to be spaced from the bottom of the-chamber thereby ensuring that the sensor is not contaminated by condensate or dirt in the gas.
