Abstract

1405416 Scaffolding connectors C EVANS & SONS Ltd 31 Jan 1973 [19 Nov 1971] 53791/71 Heading E1S A scaffolding connector comprises a T-section element 12 (or a channel-section element of generally T-shaped outline - Fig. 3, not shown) attached to an upright 10, and a channel-section element 15 attached to the end of a transom or ledger 11, the base web 17 of the channel element 15 having a slot 19 to receive the stem 13 of the T-element 12 and the portions of the base web on each side of the slot being engageable with the crossbar 13a of the T-element, and the channel element 15 carries a slidable wedge 20 of flat plate form for urging the base web 17 against the crossbar 13a when the connector elements are in such engagement. The wedge 20 is a rectangular plate having an inclined slot therein, and is captively mounted by a pin 22 extending through the slot and secured to the side walls 16 of the channel element 15, one edge 20a of the wedge being engageable with the crossbar 13a when driven downwardly. As shown, the T-elements may 'be joined integrally in pairs at right angles by portions 14 shaped to conform to the wall of the upright 10. The other edge 20b of the wedge is engageable with the end of the transom or ledger 11 when driven upwardly, so as to jam the wedge in its inoperative position.
