Abstract

1405286 Weft supplying; gripper shuttle looms SULZER BROS Ltd 1 Sept 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 40697/72 Heading D1E [Also in Division D8] An accumulating device for web or filamentary material, e.g. plastics, metallic or glass fibre material, or polypropylene weft material 7 fed from a roll 12 to a loom, comprises a container 21 at least one wall of which is in the form of one pass of an endless driven belt movable to advance the material within the container. Both side walls of the container may include an endless belt (27), (27a) Fig. 6 (not shown), trained around guide rollers 25, 26 and tensioning rollers (31) (31a) and driven by a motor 15, the belts engaging the material edges to move the material through the container. The motor also drives feed rollers 16, 18, situated at an entry aperture of the container, at a higher circumferential speed than it does a roller 13 engaging the roll 12, thereby tensioning the portion 7a. The spacing of the side walls is adjustable. A detector 41 senses when the accumulator is full and slows or stops the motor 15 until the excess material has been fed to the loom.
