1405225 Cow milking preparation stall BABSON BROS CO 20 Nov 1973 53889/73 Heading AIM In a stall 10, for automatically preparing cows for milking, spray nozzles 62 direct a cleaning solution followed by a rinsing solution onto a cow's udder. The cow enters the stall through two rear gates 22 which are closed by the action of a power operator 34 when the cow nudges a wand 70 of a switch 66. This also results in cleansing solution being sprayed at the udder, for a fixed time, from three rows of spray nozzles 62, which is followed again for a fixed time by a rinsewater spray. The front gates 20 are opened inwardly by a power operator 32 under the manual control of a parlour operator. On leaving the stall the cow trips a wand 68 of a switch 64 which results in the front gates 20 closing and the rear gates 22 opening. A feeding trough 140 is attached on the inside of one of the front gates 20 so that when the front gates 20 open the trough 140 will be moved beneath the lowermost tube of the side wall 12, and hence away from the animal. The dispensing of the feed from a hopper 150 is under timed control, to coincide with the arrival of a cow in the stall. An electrical circuit may be provided to render the stall automatic, but this can be overridden by the operator.
