Abstract

1405211 Horseshoes R T MACGUIRECOOPER 12 July 1973 33294/73 Heading AIM A horseshoe is moulded from a polyester elastomer. The process may be injection moulding producing a finished horseshoe or a preform having substantially the shape of a horseshoe and which can be exactly formed to a desired configuration by application of a small pressure. Part of the shoe may be formed by extruding a section of material and bending to the required shape. Other processes such as powder processing, melt casting or puddle casting may be used. Up to 15% by weight of an inert filler such as slate powder or powdered silicon carbide or aluminium oxides granules or powdered metal may be added. The shoe may also comprise one or more upwardly projecting members engaging the sides of the hoof when worn by the horse. Another embodiment is reinforced with washers or a metallic strip provided with holes for the nails to pass through. The shoe may be provided with metallic bridge members to hold the tails of the shoe a fixed distance apart and other reinforcing members may be cast into the shoe to limit twisting.
