Abstract

1404870 Knitting-machines, thread feed FOUQUET-WERK FRAUZ & PLANCK 21 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971] 59188/72 Heading D1C A thread storage-feeder comprises a rotatable drum 64 bearing a series of triangular ribs 2 onto which thread is wound, and a ring 80 including magnetisable material held floating by a magnet 81 and through which the thread is withdrawn. The drum is supported on a shaft 70 by a bearing 63. The shaft houses a tube 69, connected to a pneumatic supply, the lower end 74 of which communicates with a nozzle tube 78 in the drum. As yarn turns accumulate on the drum, increased pressure in the tubes bulges membrane 56 raising member 57. A constantly rotating gear 67 is raised, thereby breaking the drive connection to clutch disc 66 secured to the drum. The magnet is vertically adjustable. The ring 80 may be of steel which may be plastics coated, or may be of plastics with magnetic material embedded therein. In an alternative embodiment, Figure 5, the drum 64 is driven by a coaxial motor. The outer shell 120 of the motor drives a disc 117 via interengaging surfaces 118, 119. Disc 117 frictionally engages a clutch disc 128 secured to the top of the drum. Accumulation of yarn turns depresses tongue 124 and causes a pressure build up in chamber 123 closed by a membrane supporting a lifting disc 126. As disc 126 is lifted, drive to the drum is interrupted. A bulge 135 prevents the ring 80 being pulled off by a knot on the yarn. The feeder may be clamped in a vertical or inclined position to a pneumatic line and electric bus bar around the machine.
